week, the UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it
'offended' the Muslim population which claims it never
occurred.

This
is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how
easily each country is giving in to it.

These
photos were taken in Germany by James Emison Chanslor, an Army
Master Sergeant who served in World War II from 1942 until 1945.

It is now
more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe
ended.

This
e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of
the six
million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900
Catholic priests who were
murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German
and Russian peoples looking the other way!

Now, more
than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a
myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never
forgets.

Getting The Word Out About Invisible Youth Network

So, you'd like to be a contributor to the mission of Invisible Youth Network (a.k.a. IYN)...

You've come to the right place, because I'm very anxious to share my thoughts and ideas with you.

For starters, you might want to look over our volunteer listings. With IYN, you can volunteer from the comfort of your home computer, do real life community outreach, or both. We will work with you to find a place for you, even if you don't see it listed here, so don't hesitate to ask/suggest.

Having said this, I'm now going to link you to other ways you can help...

For starters, there's our mission statement and wish list. I have created a blog-entry out of them that includes instructions on how to make them one-sided flyers. Please read the list over and see if there's anything that you would like to donate. To go there, click here.

Do you like to write and/or get involved in discussions? If you go to this page, you will find opportunities to do both.

Make at least some of the things you write about IYN and the need to give our young people vision, visibility, and voice--not to mention the basics of life as covered in the previous paragraph. As an added bonus, some of these sites even offer cash payment in response to activity, so it's a win-win situation for everyone!

Popular Front SnowDays

At this place, you can create your own snowflakes 24/7/365 using mouse-operated virtual scissors. You'd be surprised at how nice they turn out looking. Here are some examples of mine:

These snowflakes--while fun just for the sake of making them, writing messages on them, etc--have shown themselves to also be useful vehicles for getting important news "out there."

Notice how I've done this with my own.

One suggestion when wanting to direct somebody to a website, piece of writing, discussion thread, etc. using these snowflakes is to convert the urls needed to TinyURL. This is especially true of places such as Snowdays that give you limited space and/or don't do clickable links.

Take note, however, that there are places where links converted to the TinyURL format aren't accepted with MySpace being one of them.

If you decide to go with printing up the flyers, here are some ways to distribute them:

The usual way as in tacking them to bulletin boards in such places as laundromats, student centers, grocery stores, etc.
Enclosing a flyer in with correspondence, whether writing a friendly letter or paying a bill.
If you decide to put together a box of items found on our wish list, you can share a flyer with people such as the cashier who checks you out with your purchases and the postal clerk who weighs your package.
Leave a flyer along with a tip when you dine out or check out of a motel room.
Have a flyer party and send copies off attached to helium balloons. Make sure that you enclose the flyers in either bottles or sandwich bags in order to keep the weather out. Each guest can put contact information such as an e-mail address on a note included with the flyer, because it would be neat to know who found his/her balloon and where and when.

Other interesting ways to get the word out would be such things as calling into radio/TV stations, writing into newspapers, and even catching the media when they are covering a story in your area to give them a flyer and/or otherwise tell them about IYN.

Fundraising is always a great way to go, and students selling candy, older people having a bake sale or arts & crafts sale, people of various ages participating in thons, etc. would be a winner for all involved. Talent shows are also a fun way to raise funds.

People who are fans of certain recording artists might write to him/her/them to see if he/she/they would be willing and able to do a benefit concert.

You can also send us, wear us, and otherwise display us. Our online store has a growing number of items to help you to do this.
I have a couple of blogs I use to keep readers abreast of what's happening at IYN, and I'm going to share links to them here because I can't possibly think of everything right now that can be done to further our mission, but you will find new information from me at these two blogs in the time ahead.

IYN Flyers!!!

If you copy the information given below and paste it into a document such as Microsoft Word or Open Office, you will end up with a single-page flyer that can be printed out and taken to your printer to make several copies.

Should the copy bleed into a second page, mouse over it and put the settings at Times New Roman size 10 (subtitles boldfaced and set to size 12).

I would also like to cordially invite you to join The IYN Flyers Club located at Writing.com. Joining WDC to be able to participate is free, and it's a great place to exchange ideas on distributing flyers and to share experiences. It's in the form of a message forum.

Now, let's get going on preparing flyers, because our young people are depending on us!

Invisible Youth Network Mission Statement

Invisible Youth is an expansive online network that provides resources and support for homeless, at risk youth, and related organizations.

We do this, every day, in cities across America. We carry out our mission through our partner organizations and volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and at risk youth improve their lives.

Our focus goes beyond street outreach and extends to deterrence, research, resource, seminars, training and workshops that we provide to the communities and via the Internet. But all facets of our mission are guided by that our volunteers shall tell kids that they care about them and then, at every point, prove it.

Although our slogan is "Advocating for America's Youth," our endeavors are towards all homeless and at risk children no matter their geographical location, this being done by getting the word out about various other organizations who have programs in different parts of the world that help to give vision, visibility, and voice to their local youth.

Broadcast Worship

This is one of those times when a response I made to somebody's question/discussion has taken on a life of its own to where I want to post it elsewhere as a story.

This particular discussion is in regards to how loudly the various public address systems are calling Muslims to prayer time several times per day in his city. He's a Christian instead of a Muslim, so he's not too impressed with being awakened early in the morning by this blaring sound that isn't even in a language he can understand.

What he was doing in bringing this up wasn't putting down Muslims but, instead, asking if the loudness is actually part of their religion or if it could be done at a lower volume that doesn't invade his 23rd floor apartment even when he has the windows shut and his own music turned on.

Anyway, he got lots of great answers--including some pointing out that many churches have bells they ring to announce worship, so this wasn't just a Muslim thing.

After I read the responses, I was inspired to leave one of my own--and here it is...

Here are a couple of interesting stories about sounds from churches.

When I was going to college (Christian college of the United Methodist denomination, though we accept students of all faiths) University Heights United Methodist Church (which was on campus) quietly played Westminster chimes. It was a pleasant sound to listen to while walking to classes.

At noon and six in the evening, it also played a few hymns.

This was done using a disk that hit certain keys to ring the chimes.

These twice-a-day concerts lasted, I believe, about fifteen minutes.

During the Christmas season, they replaced their usual disk with one that played Christmas carols.

I remember one year that somebody, for whatever reason, neglected to change the disk back after the holidays were over-and even for months afterwards!

In the spring, the chimes were still playing Christmas carols, and my classmates and I found that to be quite amusing.

In the 1960s, an older, wealthy member of our church, Chauncy Isenhower, donated a church steeple with a public address system enclosed in it to our church.

On the inside, this was connected to a record player where you could even play Elvis or The Beatles out of the steeple if you wanted to.

Of course, we didn't do that. Instead, we played albums with hymns done on chimes.

Chauncy had donated everything: the steeple, public address system, record player, and records.

We didn't blast our music.

It was played very softly to where you'd be standing in front of the church and suddenly realize that it was playing--much like you might realize that a gentle breeze was blowing.

In spite of this, there were some neighbors who complained about the "noise." This was in spite of the fact that there were FAR louder--and more annoying--noises going on in the neighborhood, and nobody was complaining.

So, we did the neighborly thing and quit using them except on rare occasions--and, eventually, quit using them altogether because somebody had gone up to the third floor where the system was located and messed up the record player.

In January of 1981, the American hostages had been released after 444 days of captivity in Iran, so it was suggested that, on the Saturday following their release, we ring church bells and blow factory whistles at noon to celebrate.

We have an air-raid siren a few miles away from us that blows every Saturday anyway, but I can remember when it blew that Saturday, and it gives me goosebumps even now remembering what it was like.

The siren started blowing, and, over WHUT (one of our local radio stations) a recording of Tony Orlando & Dawn singing Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree was played.

We weren't close to any church bells, but all churches with bells began ringing them.

As for our own church...our organ also has a small keyboard connected to chimes.

The public address system in the steeple still worked--even though the record player didn't--and had the means to be connected to a microphone.

The steeple PA was turned up full-tilt, and Paula (our organist) had the volume on the chimes turned up to their maximum volume with the microphone being placed as close to the chimes as possible so that we would also have a pealing bell for this happy occasion.

The next day, we went to church.

In the sanctuary, the PA was tuned to a normal volume, and our then-minister (Chuck Cox) began to preach the sermon.

Sometime into his sermon, one of the ushers came into the sanctuary to inform Chuck that his sermon was being broadcast VERY LOUDLY to the surrounding homes!

Of course, we did the polite thing and turned off the exterior public address system.

These days, our minister wears a clip-on mike--which inspires me to think about something that MIGHT have happened had the minister worn a clip-on mike then and had forgotten to turn it off before going to the bathroom.

I heard a story about this one time.

This minister had been wearing a clip-on mike and had it on preparing to give the sermon. However, he suddenly had the urge to pee, so--without thinking to turn off his mike--he went into the restroom.

The congregation first heard the sound of his pee stream making contact with the water in the toilet bowl. Then, they heard him flush the toilet.

Now, just imagine the combination of this exterior public address system being turned on full blast, and the minister is wearing a clip-on mike and forgets to turn it off before going to the bathroom.

NOW, imagine that it's Number Two, and the minister is a little constipated, so he starts grunting loudly.

Imagine, too, that he happens to be very gassy as well.

Think of what the neighbors would be hearing then! LOLOLOL

Ways To Donate Money & Material Goods:

We have several programs going on in our organization that are always in need of both cash and material donations. To find out what they are and how to donate, go here. The next section of this information sheet will tell you how to send TLC packages after looking over our wish list to see what we're needing the most at any given time.

Suggestions For Sending TLC Packages:

When I send a package, I like to use Flat-Rate Priority Mail.

Using an official U.S.P.S. shirt-box-size container that is self-sealing costs $8.95 for as many items as you can get into there where the weight is still 70 lbs. and under and the flaps meet to where the package is able to be securely-sealed by the adhesive areas provided. There is a limited number of restrictions on items that can be sent, but this isn't relevant to what would be getting sent to our young people.

I would advise spending the extra sixty-five cents for tracking confirmation.

If the value of items shipped is significant, you might also want to spring for insurance (which is quite reasonable).

With only a rare exception (one, I believe), it takes only two business days (if posted before the last truck of the day goes out) for such a package to make it from Indiana (where I live) to our San Diego Headquarters.

What I like to do is to seal one side of a box and put it upright with the open side facing upward in my shopping cart. Then, I will take it around with me and fill it. When it's filled, I go through the check-out line and empty out the items on the counter.

There have even been times when the cashier will replace the items into the box for me instead of bagging them up.

Either way, checking out is one more opportunity to talk about IYN, and the same goes for the post office.

I have a business card that I now pass out that goes to a personal website where a great deal of information can not only be found about IYN but, also, about other things near and dear to my heart.

Do two things at once: Shop and help raise funds for IYN!

Answer To A Question About Terri Schiavo

The following is my answer to a question about whether or not it was in Terri's best interest to live "that way." It had too many characters, so I'm putting it here and making a url to it...

We don't know what was going on inside of Terri's head--but there was evidence that she didn't want to have her feeding tube pulled out. At the last minute, she tried to say, "I want..." We don't know if it were "I want to live!" or "I want to die!" But it seemed as if she were hushed up before she was able to say anything, and the family was run out of the room. Why, I wonder, would they be so quick to run the family out of the room if they thought she was going to say, "I want to die!" or "I want to go to Heaven!" That would prove their point that Michael was merely doing what Terri wanted--but, of course, that would also prove that she wasn't brain-dead. Those people had an agenda to where they wanted Terri to die--and, as for Michael, he was being given an easy out. Imagine, for instance, what might have happened had OJ's ex-wife not died on the spot but had, instead, lived in a condition like Terri did to where she just might come to at any moment and point the finger at him re: what REALLY happened the night of her slashing. There are a lot of conditions which we would rather not be in. If I had been asked as a college student easily making my way across campus if I would like to be in the limited mobility condition I'm in now--to not even be able to access our upstairs church sanctuary until such a time that an elevator gets installed--I would say that I would hate to have to live like that. But that wouldn't mean that I wanted to be euthanized in case that time ever came (which it has). God is the author of life. He gives & He takes away, and that's the way that it should be. A bunch of people with a less-than-stellar agenda just helped a cheating, abusive man to murder his own wife and get away with it, imo. And, yes, Aunt Ruby, too, wouldn't want to leave the planet until it was time for her, too.

Invisible Youth is a growing network that provides resources and support for homeless and at risk youth.

Our focus goes beyond street outreach and extends to deterrence and resource programs that we provide to the communities and via the Internet. But all facets of our mission are guided by that our volunteers shall tell kids they care about them and then, at every point, prove it.

Our endeavors are towards all homeless and at risk children no matter their geographical location.

Today (Tuesday, October 30, 2007), I'm updating my Zaadz profile, and the following is good enough to keep but, still, dated enough to replace with something new.

So, I'm making a link to it on my profile page there that leads back to here.

Anyway, here it is...

About Me:

which is the day after I joined)

How did you discover Zaadz?
I was doing a Google search of my special friend, Russell T. Hartsaw, and found that one of the links led here. When I looked around, I decided that it was my kind of place and that I wanted to stay, even though it seems as if Russell's not active at this time. I'll see what I can do about getting him back here, even though I know that he's very busy with his dream project at this time and doesn't want to spread himself too thin.

What do you feel that you can contribute to the Zaadz experience?
That's what I'll be finding out more in the time to come as I find out what kinds of tools and options are available here. What I do know is that I love the friendly, optimistic, and empowering feel to this place. I'm, obviously, sharing Zaadz with others who, like myself, haven't given up on civilization and feel as if they can make a positive difference.

What is a good way to get to know you better?
One of the best ways to get to know me better is to ask questions–AND to read what I write. I'm published both in real life and online. Russell has encouraged me to do as he does when describing himself and refer to myself as an online journalist. I like that!

How can people find what you write?
Frequently, I show up when search engines such as Google are put to use. However, an even more effective way of finding out about me (what I write as well as other juicy tidbits) is to visit my various websites–of which I'm including links to two in this interview:

Both of them are works-in-progress, and, at this time (April 10, 2007), the latter is very much under-construction, so pardon the dust. It will be getting better.

Is there anything else that you might want to add at this time?
Lots of things, but I understand that I'll have a blog here and can take care of that in a more leisurely way by going there. If not, I have plenty of blogs elsewhere, and you'll be coming across them, I'm sure. So my final words are…Let's look around here some more and check out all of the possibilities!!!

This department is a consolidation of the former Food Bank and Online Stores departments which has been formed to more efficiently carry out the goals and duties of both of them, which can be boiled down into raising money and gathering food and other survival items needed by teens and children who are surviving without a roof over their heads.
